    Check out Les Jensen's article in The Journal of the Company of Military Historianshttp://military-historians.org/compa...federate-1.htm In part two Jensen describes a few examples of RD I types illustrated in period images. Although he asserts that no example of the type I product exists today, he offers an example of a jacket that closely follows the typeology. This jacket has 1/4" dark blue cotton tape.

    Here is an image of Richard Waller, Co. D, 2nd Fla. Inf.http://hchac.com/waller_csa.aspx His jacket appears to be made of jean with possibly 1/2" trim. That is, if the buttons on the shoulder straps are 1/2".
