  • IVR - Independent Volunteer Rifles

As we are in the midst of celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the War Between the States,
the 3rd Virginia Infantry, 10th Virginia Infantry, 23rd Virginia Infantry and the Princess Anne Greys have reformed the Independent Volunteer Rifles (IVR).

The IVR is a group of living historians who have a long history of correctly portraying the common Confederate infantry soldier, educating the public, participating in historically accurate re-enactments and helping preserve historic sites and land.
We pride ourselves on researching all aspects of the regiment/company that we are portraying at a specific event. We extensively research and strive to recreate these men's daily lives such as: uniforms, equipment, rations, drill, battlefield maneuvers, etc.
Our main goals are to honor our ancestors and the men that fought, educate the public and preservation. The men of the IVR will work together to ensure that the aforementioned goals are met far past the 150th anniversary .
    Respectfully,
    Capt. Commanding, Mike Hendricks

The IVR is recruiting and looking for like minded campaigners to work with. Check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/independentvolrifles

    IVR - Independent Volunteer Rifles

If you're a progressive-minded living historian in the Mid Atlantic region, I invite you to check out the Independent Volunteer Rifles (IVR). The IVR is a campaigner, battalion-level living history organization made up of the 3rd Virginia Infantry, 10th Virginia Infantry, 23rd Virginia Infantry and the Princess Anne Grays. Our main goals are to educate the public, preserve historic sites/land and honor Southern soldiers by portraying them as accurately as possible. The IVR is based in Virginia with member units covering the Tidewater, Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley areas of the state, with individual members also hailing from Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Re: IVR - Independent Volunteer Rifles

In preparation for the 150th anniversary reenactment of the Bermuda Hundred Campaign in April, the IVR, along with the Constitution Guard (host unit) and the Stonewall Brigade conducted a Camp of Instruction at Fort Washington Park in southern Maryland this past weekend. Men of the IVR provided all of the manning for the instructor cadre.

Saturday morning began with roll call and breakfast before the enlisted men were broken down into three squads for instruction in facings, marching and the manual of arms. Meanwhile, the officers were provided with classroom instruction. After the morning School of the Soldier, the group was reformed as one company for company drill evolutions. The afternoon was finished off with several platoon drill evolutions. On Sunday morning, the company was put through the paces of skirmish drill and finished up the event with a few battalion drill evolutions.

Everyone learned something, from the newest members of the hobby to the veterans. This training will pay dividends when these men reform together as the 30th Virginia Infantry for the Bermuda Hundred event.

Re: IVR - Independent Volunteer Rifles

Now that the awesome event known as Bermuda Hundred is behind us, the IVR is gearing up for the 150th Anniversary, Battle of Spotsylvania Court House NPS living history on 10-11 May. We still have room for like-minded individuals who would be interested in coming out ot portray Company A (Iredell Rifles) of the 4th North Carolina Infantry (Ramseur's Brigade, Rodes' Division, Ewell's II Corps) and experience camping out in the Mule Shoe. Anyone interested in falling in with us can PM me here.
