  • Possibly moving to Connecticut

    To all-

I am a Sothron in heart and heritage, but my job situation could soon take me elsewhere. To Connecticut...
I am not in the least familiar with the Connecticut area, but I'd like to know of any of you on here from that area who could direct me to a well-established and thoroughly authentic reenactment mess/unit from the area. Also, a comprehensive list or website of events in the New England area would be great as well.
Basically, I'd like to gauge the events/units in the area. Can ya'll help?

Thanks for your help in advance- Johnny "Reb No-More"

          Re: Possibly moving to Connecticut

          Gents-

Well, I AM coming to Connecticut after all. I have got the job of logistics analyst at Sikorsky in Stratford, CT.

I have been in correspondence with a variety of comrades from the area. Ideally, I am looking for a unit (ANV or AOP would be closer to what my gear resembles) that galvanizes whenever necessary. After all, when there are 2 Blue boys and 1000 secesh or vice versa, is that authentic odds? Guess that kinda annoys me at events where we are seen by the public. ;)

I guess I also have the philosophy that we need to "put on a good show" at public-allowed events without sacrificing authenticity. Sometimes, the public needs to know what we are about to raise money/awareness for battlefield and relic preservation as well as reeducating a mostly under-educated public about American Heritage.

But EFUBUs are sometimes great too!

I am a Southerner, but it -might- be nice to do blue for awhile... :p

          See ya'll soon!

            Johnny,

You may be pleasantly surprised when you get to New England. I started out in reenacting there, and it's the only place in the country I've lived where there were actually a lot more Yanks than Rebs registered for most events. It was quite nice, actually. I never had to wear blue the whole time I was there. :p

              Johnny,

Welcome aboard. I live up in Maine, so it's about as New England as you can get. There are, as Chad points out, many opportunities to stay gray, so don't sweat it. No need to become a cross-dresser just yet :)

If this link works, it'd behoove you to sign up. The New England Campaigners have a smaller but growing list of really good folks, and they put on a couple of small but nice events each year, as well as attand more mainstream ones as a group.

Feel free to contact me at any time if I may be of any service to you in this matter.

              Respects,

                Re: Possibly moving to Connecticut

                Dear Gents-

Now living in the Hamden, CT area and I will be attending the Woodbury, CT event as Confederate... I wear a black bowler and a Richmond Depot II jacket with an Enfield. Come up and say hello if you want to.
Anyone I should contact before I attend? Any grey groups/messes/individuals there in the campaigner camp? I'd like to have a space around the fire with someone in the campaigner camp when I get there.

By the way... I bring whisky, coffee, and items of food to eat for the mess as well. Gotta pay my way somehow! ;)

PM me and I'll give you my cell phone number so we can get together!

                Thanks- Johnny Lloyd

                    Re: Possibly moving to Connecticut

                    To all:

I attended the Woodbury event this past weekend and had a blast camping in the trenches... met some fine people too.

Any more progressives in the New England area? I'll attend the Lincoln and Winchendon events... even though they are mainstream, they need campaigners to make a good showing there in their campaigner camping area from what I've heard. If you can do living history interpretation, then I'd love to hear from you.

Send me a PM and we'll talk about creating a mess! -Johnny ;)

                      Johnny,

You will still be a Reb at heart and when Johnny Comes Marching Home you will be welcomed back in sunny South Carolina where the air is sweet from being freshly blown over the moutains and from the sea. In the area where I live most of the new folks are from the Northern States. Best of luck.
