  • Early War Southern Illinois

This is an anouncment for my efforts to create a new company / organization whose M.O. will be to portray and focus upon Early War Southern Illinois soldiers. This does not mean that we won't do the occational mid to late War impression, but the first 12 months of the Civil War will be the focus.

    1. This organization does not have a name. Let's just call it the Independent Company of Illinois Volunteers for now.

    2. The type of organization this will hopefully be will be a full company. However, for the time being it would be only a mess until the numbers grow.

    3. The location for this new company / organization will be based out of the St. Louis Metro-East area, with Belleville, Illinois as our home base. However, those who live within driving distance of Belleville / St. Clair Co. are welcome.

    4. The impression, as mentioned above, will be those early war volunteers from Southern Illinois, with a focus upon St. Clair County, which is located adjacent to the city of St. Louis. For the 1861 impression, grey uniforms with converted 1816s will rule, with a more generic state jacket and sky blue trousers for when we do mid to late war impressions.

    5. If you are interested in this early war Illinois concept, then contact me directly at nbclark78@gmail.com for more info / discussion.

    6. There is no website.

In closing, the philosophy of this new organization / company is to do a more authentic Illinois impression that does not have us wearing sack coats with sky blue trousers, Enfield rifles, etc. For an organization like this, our main contribution will come in the form of living histories, parades, etc. That's not to say that there are no chances to use this impression. On the contrary, there are sites such as Rolla, MO; Bird's Point, MO; Belmont, MO; Cairo, IL; Ft. Donelson, TN; Belleville, IL; Caseyville, IL; Springfield, IL; etc.

    Thank you,
