Our group is a collection of enthusiasts of the Iron Brigade of the West that enjoy an accurate overall impression through continuing research, preservation causes, and high quality events. If you’re a fan of the Iron Brigade of the West and desire an accurate unit to associate with, we may be the unit you’re searching for. Our members work closely with the Old Northwest Volunteers and many are a part of other well known messes and organizations in the Old Northwest. Hi gents,

Just an update that at our recent Citizens Guard meeting on May 9th, we are active again & we established a Eastern U.S. point of contact as well incase their is interest in the group. Daryl Koehn is a new member to the re-created Citizens Guard and looks forward to meeting other c/p/h gents out there that have an interest in the accurate portrayal of the common soldier and of course the Citizens Guard.

Just some updates on the re-vamped Citizens Guard that is starting to take form once again after many of us have been dormant with the group for some time.

Impressions: We tackle a wide range of impressions from militia, eastern & western federal, and confederate at times. As our name implies, most of us have an interest in the original Citizens Guard from 1860-1865 and the host of other fine companies that were raised from the home town community of Citizens Guard - Fox Lake, Wisconsin.

The new unit is comprised of many Hard Head Mess members that forum members are familiar with, affiliates of the Hard Heads over the years, & partners in preservation causes that our mess is pursuing. Due to a recent preservation opportunity at Gettysburg National Military Park we have revamped this accurate unit this past December to make this project a reality for us. You can visit the ONV website for further details on the preservation efforts we will be involved with.

We look forward to sharing our passion for an accurate impression with gents whom have a positive attitude towards an accurate portrayal. Feel free to ask us if you have any questions and unlike the Hard Heads, the Citizens Guard is open to new members that will fit in with us and meet our overall requirements.

Our website is a work in progress and will be re-vamped when time allows -sorry guys it is dated. We will be hosting several 150th anniversary militia events in Wisconsin based on this unit and others over the next few years. More details will be forthcoming soon on these events and they will be on the original ground & sites.

New projects include raising funds to create a timeline pictorial of the milita and compaines formed from Fox Lake Wisconsin and taking care now of the 6th Wisconsin's site at Culp's Hill as part of our Adopt A Position Work at Gettysburg NMP. Along with supporting ONV events we look to do some living history events in Wisconsin as well.
