  • obstical course of instruction

I am wanting to set up an obstical course to train my horse on , and have the usual gates, bridges, pilones, ect, in mind. What I'm looking for are cavalry related obsticals that will serve to prepare my mount and I for C.W. events. Whatcha think? plm

What I do for my mules is put up obstacles in between their water and feed and there pasture. That way even when I'm not there they are learning. When they get used to an obstacle change it.

I would work on some things that are perhaps more common (in almost 15 years of "cav," I have yet to jump a fence at an event). For example, I've seen guys take a horse to events that won't drink from a creek or a pond, won't tie to a picket line or doesn't play nice with other horses in a column or formation.

May I suggest perusing the obstacles from The ACTHA website. Many of these you can do at home and cross over to ACW reenacting.
