Guys keep in mind Appaloosas, Paints and pintos are not the only colored horses world wide... The Knabstrupper or Knabstrup of Denmark shares similar coat patterns to the App. and in my 18th century research I found a painting of a Frenchman riding what looks like an App... I also have a 1750's account of the French colonial horses in Illinois being referred to as the Andalusia breed and documentation to an Arabian racing in Alton, Il in the 1840's... I happen to like Appaloosas and Paints; they are pretty but were they common? I don't believe so. Would I use one for portraying the common Federal or Confederate trooper? NO! I’d either do infantry or be a camp cook before I rode a blanket App or a Paint that looked like the one in the picture at an event… Z
