  • Union cavalry weapons.

Has anybody ever heard of Any Union cavalry units armed with 3 band enfields? A friend was trying to tell me that this did exist, but I find it hard to believe. My buddy has never mislead me, but he was unable to quote a specific unit. All help appreciated.

Some southern Unionist cavalry regiments might have had some Enfields....can't quote a specific unit but they were often armed with a large mix of weapons. There were also a good many Mounted Infantry units raised in those states and I know for a fact some had some Enfields like the 2nd and 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry.

I'm from Missouri on this one, you would have to show me. Every citation where "Union cavalry" and "the Enfield rifle" are mentioned that I know of (where an Enfield is stated specifically) says carbines or in some cases the P56 short rifle. If there were exceptions and that may well have been the case, it would have been very unusual.
