  • Padded McClellan Bars

On Mr. Knopp's website he states that both jenifers and McClellans were padded for a while. I've seen a padded jenny. What did the bar padding look like under an enlisted mans McClellan? Anyone got any patterns of this?

If Ken says he's seen it, I'll take his word for it. I for one have never seen a period Federal Mac with any padding whatsoever. Maybe some other folks have.

Correct. My point was on CS not US Macs. Many Jenifers were padded at mid war (June 1863) through the Richmond Arsenal system even going so far as to have pads produced and sent into the field to be applied to previously issued Jenifer saddles. To the best of my knowledge padding the CS macs were for only of a very brief time and on a very limited number then again, only of Richmond Arsenal products.
