I assume they wore blacksmith attire at the forge. Did they wear a regular uniform on parade? I'm told the farrier brassard is a post war thing.

In an artillery battery he would be wearing an artificer's uniform on parade. While working he would be wearing his fatigue uniform. If you are talking cavalry, well then, that's a slightly different matter . . .
