    I like Patten's manual, although as we both noted, not updated for rifled guns either. But it is less detailed than the 348 page HBF at a mere 180 pages, and for teaching drill that is not a bad thing, as it gets directly to the point, more succinct with less theory in actual operation of the gun.

      Silas: ask someone in your local NPS who the regional black powder supervisor is and contact them. In my experience they have been very willing to share their drill with anyone. If the NPS is doing a ACW demo with a period repo piece, volunteer to join the crew of VIP's and they will train you to the NPS standard. That's how I got started and they do a good job.
