In case you are interested in experiencing campaigner style horse drawn artillery keep an eye out! Last weekend at Olustee myself, Mike Jones, Guy Musgrove, and Johnny Authement joined forces to put a four up team on the field pulling Johnny's 12 Pound Napoleon. Our goal is to have two four up teams on the field as several events this year.
If you are interesting in joining in with us we'll have the team/teams at the following events this year:
Shiloh:
I plan on having the team at Shiloh as CS working with Jack Key's group to form a horse/mule drawn four gun (all full scale pieces) battery with two caissons and a wagon. This is not an Authentic Campaigner endorsed event however there will be campaigner aspects to this. Friday night we will harness up and ride out from the parking lot, sleeping on the guns for the rest of the event.
On To Richmond: June 2-4
We will be CS again. It is an invite only event for artillery but if you are interested in attending contact Paul McCurley. We are going to try to have two horse drawn pieces pulling Starr's Battery's 6 pounder as well as Kevin Oyarzo's 3 inch ordnance rifle. This is strictly a campaigner style event and we will sleeping on the guns all weekend.
Wauhatchie:
I will have one team portraying the Union men of Knaps Battery at Wauhatchie in October. We will pull one gun in on the march that the Federals make on the first night.
If you are interested in learning to drive on a team and already have horse experience we can always use more able drivers. If you have no horse experience come along on the artillery crew and you can learn the basics over time. A able ground crew comfortable around horses is a vital aspect of horse drawn artillery. Horses do cross over the traces and this is not something that the drivers can fix. A ground crew comfortable around horses is vital to stop these near wrecks. We can also always use more cannoneers! Paul McCurley, Kevin Oyarzo, or David Thomas are three great contacts for those interested in working a piece at any of the above mentioned events
