  • Shenandoah 1862 Tally

I, like many who attended Shenandoah 1862, received a letter from the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation. Mine arrived today and the letter thanks us for particpating in the event and provides the following statement:

"As a result of your generosity, the march raised a total of $17,000. This money will be used to help preserve the remarkable hallowed ground at the Cross Keys and Port Republic battlefields. Your gift will be matched by our federal funds and other contributions -- so your money will be doubled! You can see why we are grateful to Pridgeon's Shenandoah Legion and the 10th Virginia for their hard work in organizing the march."

$17,000 at Shenandoah 1862 and $15,277 at Rich Mountain...not a bad summer for preservation-oriented events.

      Excellent numbers.

Does anyone know how much in matching funds will be provided?

The matching funds could easily turn this amount into $50,000+

Found this over on CWReenactors.com. It's part of message sent out by Jeremy Hilliard, who was instrumental in organizing Shenandoah 1862.

"...the letters you all recived from the Foundation if you attended Shenandoah 1862 had $17,000 and that figure was posted on the AC forum also is not the final tally. There has been a additonal $2,000 donated last week which makes the grand total $19,000 with grants translates into $57,000 like the article says above not bad for 647 was the total participants not counting event staff who also donated money. There is still talk of a third matching grant not sure if we will get that or not?"

That is certainly a result to be very proud of. Nice job.
