  • Antietam Memorial Illumination

On Saturday December 2, 2006, the Antietam National Battlefield is having its annual memorial illumination.

As I have done in the past, I have been asked to gather together a group of living historians to participate in this program. Honoring of those soldiers who fell during the Battle of Antietam over 23,000 candles will be lit. In the event of poor weather, the Illumination will be rescheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2006.

I need around 10-15 CS and 10-15 US participants to help out. We will be provided with firewood and will provide a backdrop for those who come to visit this moving program.

If you have never attended, seeing 23,000 lights scatered accross the landscape truly brings home the sacrifice made on that sacred soil.

Impressions for both sides will be generic 1862, and be sure to bring an overcoat if you have one. We will rally at 4pm at the Visitors Center for inspection and assignments.

Please contact me at ltcolcsa@hotmail.com if you can help.

    Pards,

Will you be able to post some pictures for those who can not attend?
