    Artillery at Banks' Grand Retreat

    All,

    We have permission from the Forest Service to include a few pieces of artillery in Banks' Grand Retreat. I'm presently in talks with one battery but their commitment is not a certain-sure thing. Guns need to be horse-drawn and gunners need to be up the efforts required of the rest of us hoofing it on the ground.

    Any takers can contact me directly at baker@hendrix.edu

    We should be able to offer a stipend to help off-set the expenses of bringing the piece and animals to the event.

    Artllery played an important role on both sides during the constant skirmishing and pitched battles of this campaign, especially on the federal side. It would be quite a treat for both gunners and infantry supporting the guns to add the King of Battle to the mix.

      I thought there was a progressive confederate battery out in California. I'll look around for the website.

        If only these guys from the orginal RRC were still around, the 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery, they might be able to make it for five days.:)

        I do hope we get some horse drawn artillery, that is always a treat.

          Chris,

          Sure, if you can dig something up I'm interested. Half the darned infantry is coming from out that way so we may as well have some guns making the trek too.

          Those 1st Indiana lads just might be up to the task.

            I've had some good conversations this morning and it looks like we'll have at least one piece, perhaps two.

            I'll post more info as it comes but the opportunity to have at least a gun and maybe a full section of horse-drawn artillery should add considerably to the event.

            The guns will go along with Mr. Duffer's legions.

            Any of you laggarts, blue or grey, who have been sitting on the fence need to get yourselves in gear and register!

              You are probably thinking of CHAS. I drive for them on occaision. I believe they are the only mounted battery on the West Coast.
