  • Fort Fisher, NC July 28th, Summer Artillery School

Anybody had experience with this event? Would it be a good one for us to attend or to ad hoc? We could shoot a s cannon and spend some time on the beach. :D

Greg, it's a shoot and not a school. There is still the beach though.

July 28 Summer Artillery Shoot. Staff and volunteers dress in period Civil War uniforms to shoot the fort’s cannons. Cannons are loud. Bring ear plugs. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

      Greg,
The director there does periodically offer a two day training on the 12-pound Napoleon they have in storage. You get a certificate that allows you to man that particular gun in the state of NC. I went a few years back, and as a bonus, they put us through the paces on the Columbiad. Eleven pounds of powder set off every car alarm in a two mile radius.

      The beach is good too.:)
