  • CO F, 21st VA IN...

Gents, im going to start a new thread on the company we are establishing for this event.

As stated we will be portraying Co F. of the 21st VA INF. They didn't have a formal nickname and were refered to as "Co F." through out the war. They were from Richmond, and were mostly city boys of various trades. By this time they were between their 3-4 Capt of the company and were extremely low in numbers following Sharpsburg and Fredericksburg just barely in the
    20's...

Right now we have the following leadership positions filled

Capt (1st Leut)-Skip Owens (southern guard LHA)

    Leut- Terry Sorchy (ONV)
    Leut- TBD (based on numbers)

Orderly- Eric Fair (southern guard LHA)
    2nd SGT- Joe Blunt (G.D.I)
3rd SGT- TBD (based on numbers)
4th SGT- TBD (based on numbers)

    CPL- Neill Rose (PLHA)
    CPL- John Greenfield (Gawdawefulmess)
    CPL- "Boozie" Scott Bozenbark (GHTI)
CPL- Don Barnett (southern guard LHA)

    Respectfully,

        Count me in!

Johnny and Terry... sorry I could not make Picketts Mill, cost of gas was looking a little too steep for me. At least this event is less than three miles from my house in Fredericksburg. So that will not be a problem. Also, if anyone needs a staging point before we go into the event... feel free to use my place. I am going to try to muster some of the 16th LA to make the trip. I will be meeting with Dale Beasley this week while he is in town and will call Dennis Neal to put the feelers out.

Look forward to seeing everyone again,

This may be a dumb question....but since these boys were city boys and NVA, would you see RD Kepi, various "Dandy Hats" (pokie Pie, bowlers, etc), and less of the farmer style behive hats?

This title should be placed into context when referencing what the members pre-war histories encompased. Refering to more of a First Person of your pre-war occupation. Would have seen more skilled laborers than Farmers, because most were from the Richmond city limits...

Worsham and Pegram are examples of the typical members of Co F.

I ask that if anyone is interested in Falling in with our company to contact me directly at my email address of saltwaterboy01@gmail.com. We are trying to form messes under a SGT/CPL. Additionally we are putting out specific impression guidelines for the company..

              Cheers

                Skip,
Does anyone have a copy of the Virginia Regimental series book that Howard published for the 21st VA? The books in the series I own almost all have a good breakdown of the soldiers occupations prior to enlisting. But then again most of the regimentals are written by different authors and historians so it all depends on the amount of research they put into it, so some turn out much better than others. If they do give a breakdown of the pre-war occupations then it should give you a good base for the first person impressions.

I'm awaiting my PCS orders so I'm on the fence about coming up to the event as of right now.
                Cheers,

Just a question about a source:
Would John Worsham's (of Co.F of the 21st VA) depiction of the war: "One of Jackson's Foot Cavalry" be a good source to read to prepare for this impression?
                          http://docsouth.unc.edu/fpn/worsham/worsham.html
Just wanted to make sure that it was considered accurate and not a false rememberance.
