  • Battle at Fort Sanders-Knoxville Tenn

    Folks,
I am in the initial stages of planning to raise an authentic company of 50-100 men for this event in 2009. All plans will be verified after meeting with event organizers in December.

Guidelines and research will be posted at that time. Guidelines will be enforced as much as possible. This is in conjunction with the mainstream event that was held for the first time this year (2008)

The tentative dates would be the first weekend in October (Oct 2-4).

The site is located in Blaine Tenn, about 20 miles NE of the actual fort site.

The portrayal with be from one of the following units 16th Georgia, 13th Mississippi, and 17th Mississippi. Most likely the 16th Georgia will be chosen.

can't wait till next year Greg! About 50-100 men will be good for the size of the fort and battlefield.

      Greg,

If it doesn't conflict with the Marine Corps Historical Company's 150th-U.S. Marines at Harpers Ferry and the Raid by John Brown event, count in. The Fort they have built looks great and would provide a unique and new setting for a campaigner event.

        Brian,
I would love to see you there and others as well. There are several authentic minded fellows in East Tennessee who will get this thing going. We may have an authentic encampment in the early spring to repair and work on the fortification and the property, to make it worth the land owners while. We hope to meet with the property owner and event coordinator in Dec and discuss what they may allow us to do. As I have said to others, I would certainly love to lean on some of the men with experience, to put this event together. I have some ideas to make it worth while. As you know, there are many thing involved in making this happen. Longstreet vs Burnside, what a great plan!

I wanted this post to create some intrest and possiblities. More to follow.

        PS: you too Wes!

        Cheers,
        On to Ft Negely!

Would be interested in this since I portray a soldier in Co.F, 17th Mississippi.

Greg, thanks for stepping up for this! As I told you at Westville, as long as I am not running ragged from Bummers event prep I'll probably be able to attend. I'll definitely talk this up with the Armory Guards!

                      Herb,
Sean Cooper and I are planning to meet with the land owner next month and get some more details. At that point, we will have more details at that point. We will post more when available. There will be many good authentic minded East Tenn involved in this one. Looks like the dates may be Oct 16-18. You know that you have to schedule around UT Football in Knoxville. Even if the season is poor, they still draw 108,000 fans. Hard to compete with that. There may also be a springtime encampment for fatigue duty and such.

Meeting today with the property owner to talk about the adjunct company. This is a go. A tour of the property was made and the terrain is good for the company in regard to movement. The company website will now be developed with information and researched guidelines. No walk-ons
                          Guidelines will be enforced.
                          Registration will open in Feb.

There is also a tactical that is being planned for April on the same site. More to follow on that. No walk-ons.
                          Guidelines will be enforced.
