Tripp has asked that I refrain from any more Short Bus photos. So here we are with the earth works that the East Atlanta Group set up for us

The works were based on the George Barnard photos.

I'm looking forward to this event, I am listed with the 66th Georgia, and I'm sure it will cause my ancestor John Weiser to roll over in his grave as he was mortally wounded with the 82nd Ohio at Peachtree Creek.

Glad to see we have some good interest for this event as it has some very personal connections for me. I have been working on the research for the 66th Georgia Infantry which is who those on the CS side will be portraying. This morning I posted some information on Capt. Briggs H. Napier who commanded company A and is my Great Great Grandfather. I hope to round out the general information on the regiment itself in the coming weeks.

I have promoted this among our group and others, it looks to me that you will get a good response.

There are a few photos at :

The site is nowhere near the Atlanta History Center. It is actually within a few hundred feet of Bald Hill (now an interstate interchange) and a couple of blocks from where the shooting started on July 22, 1864.

It is at Gilliam Park in East Atlanta, the address is

1700 Wade Ave Ne, Atlanta, Ga 30317

It is on the corner of Wade Ave Ne and Clifton St Ne. We'll post parking arrangements as soon as we get notification from the event staff.

Scroll down to the Battle of Atlanta LH photos. Yes we are in front of a short bus.

Will you be issuing the live rounds, or should we bring our own?

I don't know if any of ya'll were ever part of the old Atl History Center programs before a certain individual went to work there and ruined the opportunity before he got run off. I did it for about 8 years or so. at the peak they would get about 7000 spectators over the 2-day weekend, according to the event staff. Someone referenced an educated crowd might be at this event. If you get the same people at this one, you had better be ready. Nobody asked if you were hot, or if you really fought in the Civil war. Here's the typical sort of question we would get. "While it is obvious that the enlisted federal soldiers had a stake in the pending national elections, and there is documentation that they not only discussed but actually campaigned for presidential votes among themselves, do you find that the southern soldiers were aware enough of the issues to debate the consequences within their ranks?"
Damn that was a fun event.

disclaimer: That sample question was entirely fabricated as a typical example of the of questions, and is not offered as a point of historical discussion here!
