  • IPW Roll Call

So, unfortnuately, the time has come to write about this event in the past tense. I met a ton of great pards out there this week, and think it's damn unfortunate their acquaintance hadn't been met before. I figure this is a good enough way to keep in future touch.

So then, who was there in Kisatchie? And what was your assumed name?

This here is Pvt. John Kepler of Company F, 2nd platoon. Yeah, that's right, the off-key occasional singer who sloughed it out for 3 days to fall victim to hypothermia last night (but I gots all my fingers and toes, and my wits are still about me, so I guess all is not lost).

    Who were you?

    Re: IPW Roll Call

Howdy, Pvt. Kepler, this is "Cousin Hank", one of the springwater-finders and distiller of some reknown in the Piney Woods. You Federals didn't know it, but everywhere there's a spring in the woods, there's a still nearby, cooking up some good concoctions that keep the varmints out of the bloodstream. The Southern boys knew this so they were in high spirits.
My cuz Fred is under a near shunning by the family for leading the Federals through the woods, but since he kept them away from our homes and my stills, we might let him come for Sunday dinner if he brings some chickens to replace the ones the Feds stole.
We're all glad you and the others are doing okay. The weather was perfect the past three weeks and might be great next week, but this week, it wasn't so nice. Next year it'll be better for ITPW. Next year I might get to tell about the time the bear stole a still, and about my coon dogs that once treed 99 coons in the same tree.
All you folks are magnficent and outstanding and above average. It was an honor to watch y'all in action for these few days.

Thanks Hank for the fresh spring water that ya`ll always had at the oportune time. It was a good change from the medically induced water in which we were partaking of. Ya`ll did a great job in helping take care of us.

        Jonathan,
My assumed name was Uncle Tom. I accompanied you out in the wee hours of the morn to be greeted by one of our angels of mercy awaiting you. To those two men, Hank and Phil, who shared in none of the glory of playing soldier, but are akin to chopper pilots extracting the wounded from some foul battle scene, all of us owe a high praise.

My assumed name was Bigfoot Wallace, but everyone called me Fergus anyway. Assumed names do not work well for me.

God Bless ya Cousin Hank. Althougth the creek water in the Kisatche can quench a thirst when need be (especially on Tuesday). Your spring water was truly a blessing. Many thanks.
