The 30th Michigan Infantry was raised in December of 1864 to help protect Michigan from Rebel raiders in Canada. They were mustered into Federal service in January 1865 for a 12 month enlistment. The Regiment’s company’s served all over Michigan including Fort Gratiot, St. Clair, Wyandotte, Jackson, Fenton, and Detroit. The Regiment was mustered out on June 30th, 1865.

This will be a unique opportunity to take hold of a post war, waiting to go home, never saw the elephant impression. You will be sleeping, eating, marching, drilling, and conversing right where the original boys of the 30th Michigan did exactly 145 years ago. This is Michigan’s original ground and we will be working in preservation efforts to help this historical gem out.

      All....
We are going to try to make this worth your while to participate in this event. It is a cool little place that not a lot of people visit in this area. So we do things like this to raise interest, and funds to restore this hidden jem of Detroit history. You can still see where a young man carved his initals in the sally port door in 1864. A lot of history here, come on up and have a good time.

        Jeremy,
If there is anything I can do to help get this rolling, just shoot me an email. If you haven't been to Fort Wayne before, I've posted a slideshow that I've found somewhere online. Just click on the image to move to the next slide. Most of the brush you see in the photos has been cleared.

Yeah Chris the pictures in that slide show are a little dated. You can't even see the front of the powder magazine in one picture, but you can now. I cleared a lot of that stuff away myself. It makes me realize how much work the coalition has done. It looks tons better than it used to.

Re: Dissaffected in Canada - June 11-13, 2010

The question has been asked if there is a hard cap at 30 men.

              The answer is no.

The 30 participants were chosen for now because that is what I know we can currently comfortably fit with the bunks we have. If we need more room there are other options that will be used which are documented to being used at the fort.
