Some folks can do long events, some have more limited time. Me, I'm looking to move into #15 for about a week and help the site weaver run off a long warp of curtaining.

I agree with what the others have said...
PLEASE try and make this a full 4 day event!
Think of the possibilities.
And, the longer event would work well for another preservation aspect to the event. I'm sure we could talk others with craft skills into attending and ACTUALLY working on some small preservation/refurbishment project. Mending siding, fences, or just simply cleaning the area where you are "working" or living! I'm sure the folks at Westville would love to have several hundred volunteer man hours sprucing the place up! I'd be glad to do that in return for a four day event on site in 2010.PATRICK CRADDOCK

I am there. I may have even convienced my beatiful wife to participate. She loved the thought of staying in an actual house. This would be a major accomplishment.
I am supportive of a 4-5 day event, with work being performed as needed. This past weekend is the highlight of my living history life. My only regret is that my three sons were not there to share with me. Next time the whole family will be in force. Look out!
Another plus for me would be to spend more time wth my brothers and sing a few more songs and share more speechifying.

I'm there. I also like the idea of the longer weekend. It would be neat to see people trickle into town as travelers or people returning to town, etc... If we did a later event we could have the soldiers returning from war and trying to re-establish their businesses, etc. Let me know how I can help in planning or whatever you need.

Perhaps a Federal occupation, carpet baggers or a Freedman's Bureau office. Just some ideas being thrown around. I'm sure the talented folks in this community could whip something up.

Here is what were thinking:
We are tentively planning the following events:
Oct 2010: Struggles of Secession - Westville, 1863
Wounded soldiers returning. Deserters and Home Guard.
Shortages, bread riot. Hope begininging to wane, etc.
Oct 2012: Surrender of Secession - Westville, 1865
Carpet baggers, some armed Federal soldiers still in
town, black Judge, wounded veterans unwilling to
sign oaths to Union officials, etc.

As someone who makes a living providing historical programing I was more than thrilled with the quality. I came with a group of museum curators and "experts" as we were on our way to a Pow Wow in Hamilton. We were all impressed with not only the historical quality but the kindness that we received and saw given out to the other guests. We were in our jeans and sneakers so we could just 'spectate and not get any special notice.
Thank you all for a great educational moment as well as just good old entertainment (is that a bad word?) and fun. I and my traveling companions are already recommending it around town.

You can count me in on a Westville II. Oh, if the Westville folks had the sawmill they had stored under the tarp set up, I'd be set to go. Granted, Mr. Heath informed me that it was probably a circa. 1900 mill, but even so... It would make for a nice experience...
The longer event would be ideal. The site was superb, and I left just as it started to feel like home. Staying in the houses really added a lot to the event this time around. As long as I can be a rogue again and a skilled tradesman of some sort, I'll be happy with whatever scenario is chosen...
Just, please, keep an eye on the calendar... Something looks to also be brewing in southeastern Missouri in October of 2010... I've played he!! trying to make all the events that looked good this fall, and I hope to never see another 'empty summer/packed fall' year again... Any other months being considered?

Go ahead and put me down for both the upcoming events, Jim. I'm so psyched for them after the high I got from working in the candy shop ...er... woodshop. I'm even willing to take the full week off and head down the previous Saturday and volunteer my services for the week preceeding the event--is that bold enough? That place needs some TLC to get it to what it can be and I'm willing to donate some sweat to see it done right. I absolutely loved living above the boot shop and can't wait to do it again.
