  • 2011 EFUBU Calendar Nominations

    Folks,

Please submit the who, what, when, where, website, and why for your EFUBU events for 2011 in this thread.

If you've already posted a thread to discuss your event, please post a link here.

We'll close off the nominations before Thanksgiving and work on getting folders set.

My apologies for getting this started so doggone late. Better late than never?

    Re: 2011 EFUBU Calendar Nominations

    Who: Independent Rifles
    What: Garrison Living History
    When: February 5-7, 2011
Where: Fort Gaines, Dauphin Island, Alabama

Why: In January 2004 we hosted a similar event at the site. This year we will portray the 21st Alabama in Garrison during the Winter of 1861-62. Heavy company drill and evolutions of the battalion will be the focus of the day. Drilling on the large coastal pieces will be part of the life as well, like we intended to do in 2004 but were not allowed to do it because of the rain. Fully functioning commissary, the fine wares of Carter and Jasper and many other activities are planned.

      Re: 2011 EFUBU Calendar Nominations

      Who: Armory Guards

What: Living History at Fr. McAllister, Ga Semi Immersive Garrison

      When: March 2-6, 2011

Where: Ft. McAllister State Park, near Richmond Hill, Ga

      Website: www.armoryguards.org/mcallister2011/

and AC Link: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...March-2-6-2011 (made the announcement back in Jan, 2009)

Why: The Armory Guards want to build off of the higly successful Ft. McAllister "Christmas at the Fort" event some years back and a chance to recreate the garrison in the early part of 1864 on the Georgia coast. The command sturcture is in place and we have spaces open in the two companies commanded by Kiev Thomason (Republican Blues recreated) and Joe Blunt (Co G, 63rd Ga. recreated)
100 men maximum as per park's request.

      From our website:

What a living historian can expect at “Guarding Savannah”

The event itself lends to a highly immersive experience for those who are seeking an “extended event” within a very historically rich area. The fort itself lies within the Georgia State Park System. In the early part of the 20th century the fort was rebuilt under the direction of Henry Ford and the CCC at different time periods. Today it is an outstanding “playground” for living historians. From the rebuilt officer’s quarters, to the functional hot shot furnace and blacksmith’s shop, and on to the reconstructed powder magazine the fort lends itself to timeframe of the Civil War. The center piece of the earthen fort (which is actually in the direct center of the fort’s bastion) is the bomb proof that can hold 44 men in bunks, a fireplace, and a common area near the back wall.

“Guarding Savannah” will incorporate all of these areas and participants will stand guard on the ramparts, participate in various fatigue details, and drill as infantry and artillery. However, the event will not be ‘all business.’ Some of the best moments at a reenactment or living history are the small moments of being a Civil War era soldier, not the grand battle recreations or well known historical event interpretation. At the event participants will also have time to pal around with their pards, sing songs, and contribute to camp gossip. Perhaps some mail or packages will arrive from home. Being in a coastal setting trying your hand at fishing is another option as well.

Most importantly the event is a semi immersive event. The setting is there for quality first person moments for the entire length of the event. The research is readily available for participants to prepare for the event as well. The reason it is a “semi immersive” event is because the fort is part of a state park. Visitors will be coming in and out of the fort during the business hours. The remainder of the time spent at the fort is for the participants. The event hosts will do everything in their power to provide for an enriching environment for the participants. It is up to the living historian to complete the process and in the end the event will truly special.

Registration is open and slots are getting filled.

Pat is correct. I should have been more specific here. I'm looking to hear from organizers/hosts who want a EFUBU folder for their event.

Announcing WIG Primary 2011 Event - 1861 - Perilous times in South Union
Name: 1861 - Perilous times in South Union
                    When: Oct 21-23, 2011
                    Who: Hosted by the WIG
Where: Shaker Museum at South Union, KY
What: 1861 was a time of change and confusion for many, hope and excitement for others. This was certainly true for the citizens in and around Logan County Kentucky. From August to December, Infantry and Cavalry troops passed through Logan County heading from Bowling Green to Russellville gathering much needed war materials for the fledging Confederate forces, trying to raise men for the impeding fight, and just moving military forces. Troops under the command of Generals Albert S. Johnston and Simon B. Buckner all moved through this area. Colonel Forrest passed through South Union on the way to Camp Boone gathering men and horses for service in the Confederate Cavalry.

The WIG is hosting an event at the Shaker Museum at South Union, Kentucky which will recreate the well documented movements and actions of the early Confederate forces that moved through this area from August to December 1861. We will be portraying Confederate infantry and cavalry forces. Civilians will be an important part of this event to bring the Shaker Village to life. We will need folks willing to portray Shakers. There will be some limited roles for non-shakers as well. As important as the Civilians are to the event, registration will be limited.

The exact unit portrayals are still being researched. Cavalry forces will be portraying part of Col. Forrest's men.

A Website will be up soon. Registration will open up January 2011.
