  • Colors/ Color Company

Pardon me if I missed this while pouring over the outstanding provided research but I do not recall seeing anything on the colors the 2nd Mississippi carried.....if any. Who is going to reproduce these for the regiment? Additionally who was the color company at First Manassas? Also curious how the regiment was aligned by company during the engagement?

As a private in Company H this only matters to me to envision the "bigger" picture and to satisfy my modern curiosity.

Thanks for the help and looking forward to this.

    Kenneth,

Color company was C. The alignment was likely by Hardee's since the 2nd was drilled by it upon reaching Virginia. The only extant evidence we've found so far for colors comes from an ID'd powder horn carving also with the fort/camp name that the 2nd went into just after Manassas. And even then it could be argued when the horn was carved. A Confederate First National flag and staff have been provided for us to use. Hope that satisfies your curiosity!

      Re: Colors/ Color Company

right now the staff and commanders are working on a plan to nominate a color SGT and have the companies augment the Color Guard per the regulations.

I will get with the commanders on the ideas and nominations.

Ken, glad to see you will make it.. if you can't get out, ill talk to your battalion commander!!!

      Thanks,

Thanks Matt and Skip for the information.....one piece of curiosity satisfied, countless more to be answered from now until 22 July. Skip, look forward to serving with you one again it has been too long. My BC is going to be a typical career Infantry bada** but he is probably from the South and a History major (like most of us officers) so I think he will understand and applaud the effort. I will not hesitate to "name drop" if I have to!!!
