  • Any Authentic/Progressive CS units @ Prairie Grove AR this weekend???

A pard and I are now able to attend the event this weekend and currently unattached. Looking/curious which reputable CS units will be in attendance and possibly looking to add a couple strapping (and house-broken!) lads??? The website is pretty uninformative.

Looks like a stellar weekend on the way with highs in mid 60's and December lows in mid/upper 40's!!! I had hoped to go anyway, but maybe with such unexpected great weather there are more out here considering/looking to head that way.

    Thanks!

    Any CS units going?

Heard from several Fed groups. This event usually draws heavy CS representation. Thanks

March? Any more info on that?

Kind view the page as it may be set up as private. Yep, I'm one of the anti-facebook types.

Impression guidelines for the Prairie Grove 150th Confederate March: Jackets:-Civilian coats and jackets-Frock coats (civilian or little rock pattern)-commutation jackets (gray, butternut or variations) Cold Weather clothing:-Civilian cold weather clothing items STRONGLY encouraged!! (Fields of Blood, p. 260--Capt. Edwin Messer, 37th Ill. in reference to the Confederate dead after the battle-- "He also noted that they were 'well and warmly clothed'" Pants:-Civilian pants(side seam or mule ears)*No federal pants unless you can document it* Headgear:Civilian slouch Accoutrements:Pre-war/Militia, English import or Baton Rouge Arsenal cap pouch/cartridge box(or mix match with possible items missing) Civilian or military style belt (no US plate belts) Smooth side canteens, civilian canteens and Confederate manufacture canteens. Knapsacks (preferably civilian or Pre-War (Mexican war allowed)) federal knapsacks very limited, blanket rolls Civilian haversack, Milita, Mexican war, "Confederate" manufacture Shoes:Civilian style shoes and boots preferredMilitary style shoe and boot accepted Blankets:Civilian WoolCoverletsCorrect quiltsOiled ground cloth, canvas "sheets". No Rubber ground cloths/ponchos, please! Weapons:Flintlocks (Halls, 1816/22, correct civilian)++1853 Enfields12g ShotgunsSquirrel rifles42/55 Springfield41 Mississippi rifle You will also need to provide your own rations and mess gear. Period food items Only! Correct winter season foods, availability and packaging are strongly preferred. Common foods to the period are acceptable. (See food list in the files page.) ++The Enfields are on there because there is evidence that Hindman's army received a shipment of 5000 American manufactured and European manufactured weapons, along with a written report from Captain Edward B. Messer with the 37th Illinois solidifying this report and a reference from that an officer noted that he watched Arkansas and Missouri units drill with British made Enfields. There also was a note before this that men were lacking flints, caps, cartridges, cap pouches, bayonets, belts and cartridge boxes. *also do take note that we are allowing shelter halves, but no A-frames, etc. If it turns out to be a warm event we will push for no tents at all.If you have any other information to add to this please add it or let me know! **Try to keep your kit simple and light. So if you are not going to carry it on the march, PLEASE try not to bring it (camp chairs, boxes, large bulky items, etc.) Also, as many of you already know, bring extra socks in case the weather is wet. If you've never been to this event, it does snow at this event, but it's hard to predict. We will keep everyone updated on the weather as the event nears.

This list I am sure will be changing as we dwell further into food stuffs around here. But here is a basic list we have compiled so far. This is more of a guide, rather than a requirement. We just ask that the items you bring be period correct, regionally correct and in season. If anyone has any extra information, please share! These items were captured by Confederates on a Federal wagon train before the battle."Hams"SugarCoffeeRiceFlourHardtack These are the only items we can confirm the Confederates had before leaving Fort Smith.BeefCorn (various ways) We know from research that 14 beeves were butchered and were issued to the soldiers RAW, before coming up from Fort Smith. Also there were reports after the battle that some of the dead confederates had haversacks full of "cornbread" and hardtack.

This is still in progress as we are hammering out all the dents and getting everything set in place. But as of now the march will go as this. Friday: Meet up either Friday morning or afternoon, depending on times everyone will be arriving. March from around where the Morrow house would have been on Cove Creek Rd. This march will follow on/along a working road, which is almost the exact same route as the original road. The march will be approximately 10.5 miles but we will be stopping 2-3 miles out of Prairie Grove to camp for the night. Rations will be your own responsibility, but we prefer correct rations for the area and time. We will be producing a list of items that will be useable, but this doesn't mean we are going to be strict about the items as long as they are not modern. IE no candy bars, burgers and Twinkies. If all goes well we will have an area ready for us to just camp for the night, if possible we will try to get firewood to the site, if not we should have plenty of time to gather some. Saturday morning: We will be rising early in the AM to begin our final approach on to Prairie Grove. The last few miles of the march, from Google view, appear to be down hill and flat so it should be a fairly easy march. We will be going through town and then straight to the site. We should arrive either fairly close to the first battle or an hour or so before hand. Which will allow everyone to have some rest before we go in to the fight. We are not sure who we will be under command wise for the battles, but if you plan on sticking with us we will have more to go on that. After the first battle, if we have not done it before hand, we will be setting up our final camp for the weekend. This will be campaigner style camp so pack light but yet warm...if that is possible. If the weather is going to be very cold we will allow shelter halves so we can keep warm. (which in the case of Prairie Grove it most likely will be very cold) If you need more information or have any questions/concerns please feel free to contact Timothy Wicks or Andrew Gale. Also feel free to throw us some ideas if you feel you have a good plan or idea for something! Thanks
