We would like to have a complement of authentic, talented field music and any interested individuals or groups are encouraged to register. They can also contact me directly.

A call has also gone out to several groups who have expressed interest and are tentatively on board, but don't feel you must be part of a group to participate.

Let's go, boys! Your presence makes a Battalion impression better!

Closing in on a week out before registration closes and 31 days until the event itself.

We don't need a fife and drum band, just a few snares and fifers who have the groove.

A great event is planned. If you are concerned about massing of music and being removed from the unit, I will assuage those fears now; you will be with us for the weekend and as such be an active part of the 10th Iowa.

Recruiting efforts have been successful. We should have a fine complement of musicians for this event. Thanks to all who assisted in recruiting and spreading the word.

In the meantime, I reproduced a drum based upon those used by a few Iowa units. After months of work, finishing, and awaiting the artist to finish the Eagle, I am able to share photos of the finished shell. A bit more work and it will be roped and ready to play.

The shell is copied from a Soistman, including the tack pattern, and the Eagle is copied from a drum used by Ruben Brenimen of the 28th Iowa and currently resides in the collection of the State Historical Museum of Iowa.

That looks great, Ivan! Remind me to someday tell you about the "monkey drum" that a couple of boys from the Nation made, based on the infamous drum in a local museum in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
