  • Prelude to Invasion! 8th Virginia Infantry June of 63

The Liberty Rifles in conjunction with the Civil War Trust are hosting a fully immersive Soldier Life Experience event in Culpeper County, VA. We will portray the 8th Virginia Infantry, of Garnett's Brigade, Pickett's Division, Longstreet's Corps, during their week long lull in the vicinity of Culpeper, just prior to Longstreet's Corps advancing North for the Gettysburg Campaign. We will recreate the 8th Virginia from the top down, 10 Companies, to match their June 1863 rosters. The camp will be a static one, where the wagons have caught up to the infantry. This event will adhere to STRICT authenticity standards including, but not limited to impression, kit, age, weight, and attitude. All participants are expected to look and act like 1863 soldiers from the Army of Northern Virginia. The focus will be on camping, drilling, cooking, eating, dress parades, inspections, swimming, liesure time, etc. An average day in the life of a soldier! This event will spare no details, and take no shortcuts. We will have our fully operational wagon on site, loaded up with cook gear, paperwork, ammunition, and tentage. We'll also have a functional period sutler where you can use pre-paid period notes to purchase edibles and other period goods. The camp scene will be meticulously set up to fully immerse you into 1863. Field officers will be mounted, field music will regulate all activities, and so on. Lastly, we'll be reproducing the 8th Virginia Flag that was captured at Pickett's Charge. The details, minutia, and immersion setting will be the focus of the event, in an effort to create the scene as it was in 1863! 071216B1-A257-4C18-8E35-C749D3DF92D4.jpeg071216B1-A257-4C18-8E35-C749D3DF92D4.jpeg

      Mike,

I have some copies of dairies that talks about Pickett's Division at Chambersburg. I know that you guys are portraying the unit a few weeks before they entered into Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Okay, we've finalized with a few small changes. The first of which being, John Wickett will be raining a company with Tyler Underwood! Hoping to see some westerners make it out east for this event. We'd love to have you and you'll be in good hands with Wickett! Secondly, our 10th Company will be commanded by Charles Bush and Caleb Miller, the nucleus of which will be 26th NC guys.

                  TIME TO DECIDE!

Looking forward to this coming year, reenactors have a choice to make. It's the new breed vs. the same old same old. We are here to present to you the alternate choice from the status quo. We're striking out against everything we see wrong in the reenacting world...not by complaining or pouting, but by doing it our own way...the RIGHT way. Prelude to Invasion will be a hardcore immersion event where you will immerse yourself in June 1863. The camp scene, the logisitics, the paperwork, the drill, the rations, the hand sewn tentage will all be correct to the hilt. If you want to experience a couple days in the life of a Civil War soldier, this is the event for you. If not, well...I guess you can always go to the 155th Gettysburg Reenacment and do whatever people do there. Choice is yours! You get to decide where you put your hard earned money, time, effort that goes into this hobby. I hope you won't throw it away on a gimmickey farb fest that rips you off, and offers nothing in return. Choose Prelude to Invasion for you and your pards! We're pushing the envelope, and looking for others to join us! If you're already signed up, push your friends that are on the fence!

If you meet the impression guidelines and are of a reasonable age and weight, head over to the webpage and get signed up! UP MEN, AND TO YOUR POSTS!

Just one of the many reasons you're going to want to be at this event...a functioning Quartermaster and the opportunity to draw multiple items! Orrrrrrrr, you could just go to 155th Gettysburg and draw a funnel cake.
