Incredible, and truly amazing once you see the grand scale of the wilderness compared to the supply train. Definitely puts things in perspective of the sheer amount of work required to bring supplies to the armies and outposts!

It's certainly on thing to read about the challenges of frontier life, or to imagine how had it could be, but when you experience it it is amazing. In twenty miles we encountered only two places where there was any water whatsoever, and there is not a single tree of any type within at least fifty miles. It's a beautifully desolate landscape and it's hard to imagine dealing with that and hostile Indians for years at a time.
