Missionary Ridge Preservation Update

Tyler Underwood is heading up the preservation effort for Missionary Ridge. Here is his latest update:

Friends of preservation,

I would like to give you an update on the current events surrounding our preservation project for Browns Ferry that is in conjunction with the November 2019 Missionary Ridge immersion event.

Our proposal to the various organizations involved with acquiring the land for Browns Ferry have been submitted. Our humble request consisted of allowing access to the site and assist in the clean-up and restoration to its original appearance. Our second request is that all donations go towards maintenance and interpretive markers to tell the story of what happened at Browns Ferry and the story of those involved. It is also worth mentioning that Browns Ferry was used as a crossing for the “Trail of Tears” as well.

This proposal has been met with extreme enthusiasm. I have since spoken with one group about our proposal. It is understandable and respected that each organization must make its final determination in a democratic manner before we can make an official announcement. We thank all of you for your patience.

To raise funds for this historically significant tract, all net proceeds from the Missionary Ridge event will go directly to Browns Ferry. To achieve this we will be making several preservation announcements very soon. Check back often for official updates for the November 2019 Missionary Ridge hosted by your friends and comrades in the Governor Guards and Mess #1!

MISSIONARY RIDGE ANNOUNCES PRESERVATION PARTNERS FOR BROWN'S FERRY!

Friends of Preservation:

Tonight, it is with great pleasure that the Missionary Ridge Event Committee announces that we have the full support and cooperation of the American Battlefield Trust, the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association, and the Friends of Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park to work towards the common goal of preserving and restoring Brown's Ferry! All net proceeds from the Missionary Ridge Event will go towards site preservation, maintenance and interpretation at Brown's Ferry. Specific fund-raisers will be announced very soon.

We will also be hosting a Brown's Ferry Work Day at the site to assist with clean up and maintenance. The date for this is TBD and will offer a unique opportunity for all volunteers to be a part of a project to bring a Civil War site back to its original wartime appearance. Furthermore, you will get exclusive access to a site that is currently closed off to the public.

We look forward to working with everyone on this project and hope you will keep checking back for updates. Let's help re-open the Cracker Line. Support the preservation of Brown's Ferry!
