How do I find inspection returns for the florida brigade in the AOT? Tried searching the Nat archives on line catalog but came up only with service records? Interested in 7th, 6th, and 3rd Florida. Any help or info greatly appreciated. Jim Hensley

    Re: National Archives help

Try looking for the units by Departments. If any of the units were in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, there might be a inspection return. Here is the other problem, you will most likly have to go to Washington, DC or Atlanta to look up the documents. Most of the papers are not on line. And, it will cost alot of money to have someone else do it for you.

      Jim,
This does not necessarily answer your National Archives help question but, if you cant get to Tallahassee, This site has some great info. It is a pay site like ancestry.com etc. but it has a ton of good info specific to Florida units. Also try the Florida Historical Society as well. Hope this helps.

You will have to go to Washington your self. The Records are in the Regimental Drawers-- Each Confederate unit has, if extant, a set of records, QM. documents, pay vouchers, letters sometimes, etc.-- There is no guarantee you will find what you are looking for. Good Luck

I would also contact the National Archives directly to ask your question. They may have things they can help with that others may not know about.
