Confederate cap pouches or fakes?

I saw these on an auction site. Says one marked 1862 Atlanta Arsenal. Supposed to be copy of French cap pouch 1860's. Anyone know what the French cap pouch looked like? Could CS have copied them?

These look like surplus Turkish ammo pouches. FWIW, I believe Jarnagin makes repro French CW-era infantry equipment.

Pure and total bunk-um.
These are French made, yes, but WWI vintage.
If one is marked Atlanta-1862, it was done within YOUR lifetime.

Yup Mauser pouches... had one back in the 80's as CW as a Maxim

They might ought to be careful about faking an 1862 Atlanta cap box. There is a high profile one that still has an open larceny case associated with it. Although this seller is in no danger of being picked up for anything but fraud.

I would state under oath that the seller who is offering these boxes, whatever they are, has totally mis-represented all of the items he has for sale on the web auction Jim visited. The old adage, know your seller, comes into play.
The only saving grace is that along with mis-representation comes over-pricing so his items do not sell.
Moving from living history to collecting can be a frightful jump.
Know your seller, and know your subject. This dealer goes beyond simple fraud in the scope of his offerings.

I've seen plenty of surviving Atlanta Arsenal cap pouches and those aren't them. There are some similarities, they are leather, they are black, and they have a single loop on the back.........that's where the similarities end.

Not French and certainly not as early as WW1 much less the American Civil War. They are, quite simply, Spanish Army or Police cartridge pouches for the 7mm Mauser ammunition on 5 round chargers. They are very commonly available on the surplus market since the '60s. They date, in Spanish use, from the 1920s through the the 1980s when La Guardia Civil (National Police), the last to use them, quit using the Mauser short rifle. Like most Spanish leather military accoutrements, they are rarely marked.

Another one just popped up on ebay. He only wants $50 with shipping for his original CW pouch. I emailed him with news about what he had and contacted Ebay.
