Re: Canteen Defarb/conversion
This is a "sow's ear, silk purse" situation for sure. I would STRONGLY recommend saving up for a proper, 1910s-dated canteen. That way, in the end, you'll have paid for ONE canteen instead of TWO. However, if you insist on going your way, use the search function. There's an article from a few years back about how to file the date off, and hand-cast a new screw-top.Marc A. Hermann

Re: Canteen Defarb/conversion
You didnt say if this was a German canteen or otherwise. While there were screw top canteens in use of the Imperial German Army in the great war, they were a different shape. Typically the cap was made of bakelite by 1945, but the aluminium ones are the wrong shape anyway. Sure, you see plenty of reenactors with with WWII pattern canteens - but you want to be authentic, right?David Stone

Hallo!
I have heard that the black bakelite caps are sensitive to beeswax linings.
Paint it silver, no one will notice beyond 50 yards, especially for night actions and insults.

Re: Canteen Defarb/conversion
Il est possible de convertir une cantine de 2 litres dans une cantine US 1910 avec une quantité minimale de dépôt. Mes résultats ressemblent à une mise à mort opossum de route et un tas de copeaux métalliques.Robert Johnson
