A Kentucky Soldier in the Great War

Pvt. Leslie T. Walden, 1918. He was drafted in June 1918 and spent his enlistment at the FA Replacement Depot at Camp Taylor, Louisville, KY. He was discharged December 11, 1918. I guess the Army figured they didn't need a bunch of surplus service rifles by then, because they let him take his M1917 Eddystone home, which I still have.

His draft registration. He was a farmer from the hills of north-central Kentucky (Pendleton County).

After his short stint of military life he returned to the farm, got married, and raised two sons, who were both in the Army Air Corps in WWII. In this 1945 photo he is on the left, with his two sons and wife.
