  • Starting a unit from the German 86th Regiment (one of the"danish" units)

In 1864 Denmark fought and lost a war against Prussia and Austria.
This resulted in Denmark loosing about 40% of our total area to the "Germans"

The Danes who lived there became German citizen and had to serve in the Imperial army just like the Germans.
So 26.000 danes fought on the west front from 1914-1918.
5.270 was killed so more danes was actually killed in German Service than was lost fighting Germany in 1864. (or during WWII for that matter)

After a referendum in 1919 part of the lost area was given back to Denmark in 1920 giving us the current Border.

So we are in my acw unit 15th Wis, talking about starting a "German" infantry unit from the 86th regiment. One of the units with a large % of Danes.

I hope we I will "meet" you in no mans land in a few years.. when we get to the battles in 1918...
