    Attached is the note Major Charles Whittlsey sent using the pigion, Cher Ami, to stop the Allied artillery hammering their own position during the fight. Reading his words, you can feel the distress they were under. Click image for larger version

      Hallo!

      Air mail was sometimes slower back then.

      Cher Ami does not look a day over 114 still!

      She was shot through the breast, the eye, and had one leg hanging by a thread (which was amputated).

        Speaking of carrier pigeons; does anyone these days raise and train them? It would be great to incorporate them into my impression.
