  • I NEED a job!

If anyone on the A-C has connections or a hook up at their historic site, museum, etc., I'm in desperate need of full-time, career employment. I've been laid off from Pea Ridge since November, can't find work since, have taped out my unemployment ... things are getting real tight. I can send to you my resume and letters of recommendation, if needed. I'm willing to relocate.

    Thanks

    Nic,

If you have a masters degree and want to teach military history, etc. please send me your Resume/CV. I know an accredited university that is looking for adjunct professors to teach online classes. It’s good money and you will not have to relocate.

    My email address is profbond@cox.net

      Nic,

      Try www.myflorida.com

Three Florida State Parks have current open positions. Two are full-time Ranger positions. Curry Hammock State Park and Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. Both are in south Florida so cost of living is high.
The other position is a part-time ranger at Talbot Island State Parks. This is a group of five or six parks, some historical, some natural resources, etc. Talbot Island SP is between Jacksonville to the south and Fernadina Beach (location of Ft Clinch State Park) to the north.

Good Luck with the job search,

          Nic,

Last we heard, you were selling stuff off and you were going to be living in Australia for a year. Did you go and come back early or are you abroad and looking for something when you get back? I'm guessing you're stateside from your post but wanted to ask.

            Re: I NEED a job!

I'm still in search for a full-time, permanent job. I would like to find employment in New Orleans, or the surrounding area. I have a degree in history from a top 25 liberal arts college, and have been a park guide, tour guide and historian for the State of IL, the State of LA and the Federal Gov't.

            Thanks.

p.s. I moved back from Australia early because there's no work down there, either.

                  Re: I NEED a job!

Please do not get me wrong what I am about to write. We all have our dreams about the perfect job. I worked at Fort Pulaski National Monument as a seasonal. I was hired at Fort Morris State Historic Site for the Georgia DNR with very little money to live on. And, I worked at a Non Profit Organization in Savannah, Georgia that was a complete joke. There idea of history was selling chicken and shrimp at after hours events.
I got away from the history field. I am a stevedore at the port of Savannah today. I am making good money and not having to worry that much about the future. I can now enjoy living history without all the headacks. With the job outlook we have today, you might want to really look outside of the field of park ranger for your future.
A part of me would really like to get back into the history field, but the rewards and jobs are just not there.
Good luck, I really hope you find that you are looking for.
                  Yours,

                    Re: I NEED a job!

Well, since I started this thread back in April, I went back to work for Pea Ridge in May. However, I'm once again laid off as of 17 days ago. So, once again I'll fall back on trying to sew and sell items over the winter, I'll probably sell off more of my personal wardrobe from this hobby to help me get by for this week or that week, and cross my fingers that I'll find something before I get flat broke. Ahh the life of a history grad. I am, however, holding out that I'll get on with a new American art museum here in NW Arkansas, so that - like you - I can get away from the history field. If not, there's always Pea Ridge once again come next March. But as always, if you or anyone reading this post has any connections, inside info, etc., I'm game to whatever so long as it's permanent, full time and with benefits.
