  • Old Fort Niagara, NY

I saw in the newspaper a few days ago the Old Fort Niagara is looking for a multitude of people to fill key positions for the 2008. Google "Old for Niagara"

When one site has multiple job openings at the same time, that kind of tells you what type of place it would be to work.

      Kevin,
I have worked at OFN now for a while now and it is both a great historic site and a great place to work. Your statement may hold true in most cases but in this case you need to consider the fact that it is a summer job for most and we are hiring seasonal help for multiple vacancies from interpretive programs to the gift shop. Also we have a number of positions available due to the fact that we received a grant and we are expanding our interpretive department to include key people in Ft Niagara’s history first person interpreters, Native American interpreters as well as French and British military interpreters which is in keeping with our upcoming 250th anniversary of the 1759 siege of Ft. Niagara July 4th weekend. Hope this clears things up.

Ian, did we meet a few weeks ago, at the gate? It may have been someone else, as I am bad with names. Just wondering.

            Ian,

I will be at the fort next weekend for the F&I event. Have never been there and am much looking forward to it. I hear I am in for quite a treat. I'll be with the MD Prov. Forces.

Im gonna check the 4th of July event out myself. This is supposed to be the equivalent of a national event. You will not be disappointed!

                  Re: Old Fort Niagara, NY

This is way past due, but I was there for a War of 1812 event back in 1986-7 and it was a tremendous event and effort. The facility and the event orginizers did a bang-up job.

I was part of a unit who re-enacted 1816 (our American fort was beseiged during 1812; the outpost of Fort Wayne, Indiana; we had no part in any Fort Niagara defense/offense).

The site was spectacular and very well staffed. There were several active archaeological digs going on at the time. And, we were afforded the opportunity to dig ourselves under careful observation. Several objects of historical significance were found and we were able to hold spent musket rounds dug from the same site.

We were re-enacting a battle and my file partner's flint lock went off. I caught a major portion of his "flash-in-the-pan." I crumpled to the gorund with powder burns to the face; a cool doc from the crowd helped me out; contacts trashed; hot ER nurses; and back to Indiana I go...

                  I love Old Fort Niagara.

Big stuff for us Indiana boys! Thanks OFN! That sticks in my head 20 + years.
