  • Exciting Announcement- 200 New Documents!

While processing the McRae Family Papers, an additional 200 documents were discovered and relocated to the McRae Business papers. These documents include further information about Colin and John McRae's Confederate government service, Caleb Huse arbitration documents, financial dealings for the Confederacy, and Colin's promotion of settlement in British Honduras for former Confederates. Additional documents describe the attempts that English businessmen had in transforming their businesses in the post-war years with the collapse of the Confederate government's purchasing, including the development of the Martini gun. An updated finding aid is now available to researchers at our website: http://crr.sc.gov/mcrae/research/

Additionally, the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is pleased to announce the opening of the McRae Family Papers for research. The McRae Family papers span the pre-war, wartime, and post-war experiences of the McRae Family. Included in the Family Papers are the personal business ventures of Colin McRae and John J. McRae's before the war and in post-war British Honduras. The finding aid is also available at the above link.

Check back to this forum as we will be posting a few of the new documents for discussion over the next week!
