  • Eastern or Western Theater?

A simple question for some market research. What is your primary emphasis? Eastern or Western Theater? I know that many do both, but if given the choice between the two, which is it? We would like to see which way our membership leans.

Understanding that many of us are able to portray one theater or the other, the question is, which way do you lean? When studying the war, are you more interested in Western or Eastern Theater? When attending events, which are you more likely to sign up for? This poll is anonymous. We aren't tracking who votes for which. It's one or the other.

I too can portray both theaters and have done so many times. However, I consider myself a westerner. My primary interest is in western theater battles. Personally, I think that the eastern theater gets too much of the attention. That is my personal preference. Your mileage may vary...

I am partial to the Eastern Theatre. It's because I live there and my ancestors fought there. I have recently become more interested in the West, but it hasn't surpassed the East yet.

          Western, Confederate, or Union.

Never really cared to do anything out East, 150th Bentonville was as far "East" as I was caring to go, and I had to miss THAT event!:cry_smile

I will always choose west over east. However I will do east if the impression and or event sounds promising enough.

I picked Eastern but for my primary emphasis is a western soldier, meaning from MI/WI/MN and such, in the east.

Though I voted Western, the Trans-Mississippi Department is the best impression out there!

                        Re: Eastern or Western Theater?

As someone who lives in North Dakota and has been doing living history for over 10 years now, the Western Theatre naturally fascinates me.

I also think, in some degree, it is the tenacity and creativity of the generals to maneuver the armies over the unrelenting terrain of TN and KY and the south, not to mention the fierce battles that took place on the Mississippi.

I agree with Eric that the Eastern Theatre receives way too much attention at times and that mileage may vary.

                              Re: Eastern or Western Theater?

So far, several responses that the western theater doesn't get enough attention, but by about 3-1 as of right now, poll results favor the west.

Part of that, of course, could just mean more westerners visit here than easterners.
