  • Velvet Collar on Linen Civilian Frock Coat?

    Hello Friends,

I am new to civilian reenacting & am seeking to portray a civilian physician of moderate means. Has anyone encountered a linen frock coat with a velvet or velveteen collar for the 1850-1865 time period? I've seen velvet collars on wool frocks but in a few cursory searches, I've encountered none. Just looking for some corroboration or new knowledge. Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Velvet Collar on Linen Civilian Frock Coat?

Velvet and linen together would be counter to the aesthetic of mid century menswear... so... Nope, not seen a velvet collar on a linen coat.
Pay special attention to sportswear (ie: hunting, shooting, equine sports) where we often see velvet trimmings and to resort-wear (ie: boating, picnics) where we often see linen.
