    Found another similar incident with the U.S. Signal Corps in the photograph, "Washington, D.C. Central Signal Station, Winder Building, 17th and E Streets NW, and Signal Corps men" (LC-DIG-cwpb-0413).

    They don't seem to care too much either! Or perhaps the sign was intended for non-corps members...

        There is a reference in "The Guardian of Savannah" about the "keep off of the grass" signs posted on the ramparts of Ft. Mcallister. Also, the book describes how the garrison watered the slopes by hand. All this was to prevent the earthen walls from eroding.
