    Gents,

Registration for the Pickett's Mill Living History on June 4th-6th is officially open. There will be two companies organized. Company A with Kiev Thomason commanding and Company B with Tony Patton commanding. This is a unique opportunity to recreate the movements of the 8th Arkansas on the actual location. If you are interested in attending this living history please register sooner than later. There is a cap of 50 participants.

The registration is attached below. The cost for registration is $20 check or money order made out to Jordan Roberts. The registration fee after April 1st is $25 and ends on May 1st. The money collected will go to ration cost and any funds left over will be donated to the park. For additional questions concerning the event contact Jordan at jrobertsga@bellsouth.net

Re: Pickett's Mill Living History 2010

        Please, get those registrations in!

Pickett's Mill needs a good showing from this event, because the budget ax will fall again on Parks and Historic Sites on July 1 2010.

They could not possibly do any more cuts? Oh yes they can.

At this time it seems that the Lodge Parks and maybe the Golf Courses are going to take the next budget hit.

Locally, Red Top Mountain is probably going to take a budget hit. The Lodge will either be privitized or closed. The Park will remain open but the Lodge may or may not stay open.

How does this affect Pickett's Mill? I do not know yet and that's what worries me.

A good turn out at this event on June 5 might help turn the budget cutters in a different direcion as the new budget kicks in on July 1.

As for those people who think I might do something out at Pickett's Mill later but not this time, well there may not be a next time if the Park does not get good turnouts for events. Right now the powers that be are questioning the value of black powder programs and training at Georgia State Parks. Yes that really has me worried!

Thanks for letting me get on my soap box,

        James Wooten, Interpretive Ranger
Pickett's Mill Battlefield State Historic Site

James, thanks for the update on the Mill.

Folks if you have not visited the park this is the perfect chance to do so. I sincerly do not want the funding towards the Mill to be cut again. That park has hosted some of the finest EBUFU events in the past two decades.

Re: Pickett's Mill Living History 2010

Some points of interest about this Living History.

              1. We will be moving in real time a the same ground as the 8th Arkansas including the night assualt.
              2. We will be using parts of the park not used in past events.
              3. We will be using original rifle pits for picket duty.

Also a little facts about the 8th Arkansas during this battle

              1. The combined 8th and 19th Arkansas was less than 200 men at the time of the battle.
              2. They were the only unit of Govans Brigade to engage in the cornfield.
              3. The was one of the first to engage in the cornfield at 5pm and was not relieved till the following morning.

Geez, over 5000 members here and you have 22 guys registered for an event at possibly the most pristine site in the hobby? Maybe you should have to actually participate to be a member here...

Well Georgia has scary the hills. Don't you remember last November?

No worries from our end as hosts. The folks who want to attend are attending. We actually got more regisrations in person this past weekend. Jordan and James have a solid plan for the weekend that won't leave participants SOYA.

We are still accepting registrations for the event.

                                Thanks all.
