    Re: Franklin-April 16-18, 2010

    Patrick:

I may be asking this question a bit early, one of the pards I'm traveling with is NOT hooked up to the internet, asked me about cartridges.
How many cartridges are you planning for us to need for this event? Also, any particulars on the make-up of these cartridges, as in made with National Park standards, or can tissue be used to simulate a bullet/correct size...

        All,
In the answer to ammo- not really going to stress this. All know the accurate grain counts for their own individual rifles. We may fire 20-40 rounds at most.

          Patrick:

          Thanks, I'll pass the word.

          Andrew:
Hey, I wanted to be the only one with imported Enfield cartridges:cry_smile...seriously though, in answer to your question about NPS cartridge standards, they are just paper tubes with powder, no tissue to simulate the bullet/ball.
At least that is how I understand their rules, someone correct me if I'm wrong!

            Re: Franklin-April 16-18, 2010

Some quick facts on The Carter House Site:

            1) House completed in 1830 with addition/wooden "ell" added in the mid-1830s.
            2) Original outbuildings include "the office", kitchen house, and smokehouse.
            3) Three of Fountain Branch Carter's sons join Confederate Army in May of 1861.
            4) One son, Lt Col Moscow Branch Carter, is present at the home during the battle.
            5) Federal troops arrive at Carter home early morning, (still dark), on 30 November 1864.
            6) General Jacob Cox sets up his field HQ in and around the Carter home.
            7) Northern troops build two distinct lines of defense.
            8) Overall Federal commander, Maj Genr'l John Schofield at Fort Granger, (north of town), during battle.
            9) Colonel Emerson Opdycke's brigade takes up position north of Carter House...contrary to orders.
            10) Hood's men "step off" at 4pm and bust through Northern defenses at the Carter House.
            11) Opdycke's brigade and other US troops counter-attack and seal the breach.
            12) Before 830pm, Union skirmishers advance in area south of Carter House.
            13) Main fighting over by 9pm.
            14) Aprox. 24 civilians take shelter in Carter House cellar during battle.
            15) Captain Theodric Carter, (20th TN Inf, Co H), found mortally wounded aprox. 200 yards from his home.

            Just a little "love" fellars...

Golly gee damn, I knew it would happen. STRI scheduled their infantry training the same weekend.
