I had this posted in an incorrect folder.

    150th Firing On Fort Sumter 04/08/11 - 04/17/11

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am looking for an Authentic Group to portray one of the Militia Units that was stationed on Sullivans Island during the Firing on Fort Sumter. I have been given permission to raise three 125 men militia units for outside the fort. This would be a great opportunity to bring out the common tent and to set-up a static garrison camp. Currently we are researching all the units that were on Sullivan's Island. This will be a living history and not a reenactment although there may be some firing of artillery pieces from the beaches. There may also be some open slots for some inside of Fort Moultrie. We have slots for 70 for the 10 days and we are spliting the time into three sections. One will be for the full 10 days and the others will be from 04/08/11 to 04/12/11 and 04/12/11 to 04/12/17. Requirements inside the fort:

Dark Gray Cassimere Frock Coat with matching trousers.
    Kepi of the same material.
    M 1842 Springfield
No modern items with the exception of medicine to be kept in poke sack.
Good Health that will allow you to drill and march daily.

    More later on requirements

I have done several Living Histories and I did participate at the Fort Moultrie LH with the Palmetto Living History Association for four days and the Re-Opp of Fort Sumter. I also do a LH yearly at Fort Sumter around April 12th. I also participated in the Rich Mountain LH so I do have a little insight on what I am attempting to do.

I will allow the person that takes over the authentic militia unit outside the fort to come up with their own standards as long as they represent a chosen militia unit. There will also be strict requirements for the other two militia units on the island. Each unit will have their own separate camping area. There will be modern things in sight but we will be on the actual Fort Moultrie Site and where all of this happened. We will also have a unit stationed at Fort Johnson.

As of this late date, we only have 15 registered on the PB website. Claude Sinclair supported "To Prevent the Effusion of Blood" and he has attended our events and has went through a lot to improve authenticity for this event. If you have any questions about the uniforms, roles or anything, write me at: gdeese@trampbrigade.com. We could use your help and this will be one of the few chances to portray early war SC Soldiers.

      Sincerely,
      Gregory Deese

Groan. People are going to be kicking themselves if they have the free time, but do not come out to the fort and portray these South Carolinians. The nation's eye is going to be on Sumter that weekend - especially the first day Greg's group is in the fort. This is a big deal. Don't miss this one.

Greg, offer pie of some sort. I bet you commence a stampede.

Thanks Silas. We will have some fun times, big group or small. I have also arranged for boat transport to the city for a pass on Saturday night.

Also the registration fee is still just $15, we will take contributions for rations. I am asking a minimum of $7 per day attending, per man.

Registration for this event will close on March 12th. No walk-on's allowed. There will be passes issued and they will be enforced by the National Park Service.

For anyone that registered for the event. Make sure to visit the "packet pickup" behind the Omar Shrine Temple, at 176 Patriots Point Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC . Once you have the packet, go to Fort Moultrie and have your weapon inspected prior to check in. Our meeting point will be near the loading dock behind the Fort Moultrie Visitor's Center. I will be there Wednesday at 6 pm. We will have a small camp and staging area. Weapons check in will be at a white fest tent on the east side of fort near cannon row. Also bring around $20 for rations.

Make sure your weapon is very clean, prior to check in. Bring a pair of modern rubber soled shoes for the NPS work boat in case you have to take that . The General Beauregard will leave the Fort Moultrie NPS dock at 8 am on 14 April.

I realize that this may not reach anyone until after the event, and mods, I understand if it doesn't fit the needs of this forum, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any attempt to broadcast or record tonight's events in Fort Sumter for broadcast. While I wish that I could be in Charleston, life prevents me from being there in person. I would still like to see the bombardment commemoration.

                  Thank you.
