    Re: Hat Star

Pat Landrum and I looked through a book just on images of Mississippi soldiers looking for stars on their hats. As best as I can remember, the number of points on the stars were: 5 point 90%, 6 point 8%, and seven point 2%. They were varied from plain to fancy and some were almost as big as the wearer's head!

Veterans would tell of Sherman's ordering a flanking movement and instructing a subordinate how to report his progress: "See here Cox, burn a few barns occasionally, as you go along. I can't understand those signal flags, but I know what smoke means"

Ask Landrum. It's in his library but I've returned it to him.
