  • Independent Rifles Adjunct Battle of Raymond- October 19-21, 2012

The Independent Rifles will be attending the Battle of Raymond/Vicksburg Reenactment with the Red River Battalion. After discussion with the Battalion commander, our unit designation for the weekend will be the 7th Texas on Saturday (Raymond) and the 2nd Texas (Vicksburg) on Sunday. While some people scoff at the idea of doing a Vicksburg event in October, it is the last chance to operate on this field as reenactors. Given the sites history with successful adjuncts in the past, I feel there needs to be some form of commemoration at the Reenactment.

Usual amenities apply: ration issue, guard mount etc.

We are aiming at raising ONE COMPANY of 50 men for this adjunct.

Guidelines and registration information are still forthcoming once the Blue Gray Alliance folks recover from Shiloh. Just wanted to get this out there. This is sandwiched in between Perryville (which I will be attending) and Westville, so I apologize to the organizers of these efforts for not getting information out sooner, but the IR voted on this back in January.

Im interested if falling in. Should I register through you or the BGA website? I was going to go to Perryville, but doubt it with the way gas prices are going.

I'll put out that information when it gets handed down to me from the Red River Battalion.

Also in concern to Perryville and this event for that matter, if you want to Carpool, let me know. Perryville is a battlefield everyone should go to, and the effort that Jim Butler is putting together is well worth it. Going to be a great time.

Also, more specific details about this adjunct will be put together in the usual AC format when I get home and have regular access to the internet.

If I'm back in Mississippi I will probably go, I do have reservations about the timing of this event, but I'll just squint and think that it's Iuka......

I will give each man 20 heat packs for camping to stuff in their jackets to help replicate the accurate temperatures.

Hope you can make it Will. You know my feelings about the time of year too, but things will be what they will be.

Well, according to the Weather Channel website, the average temp. in Raymond, MS in May is 85 and in October it is 80. 5 degrees is not that big of a deal, and most Mississippi Octobers, as I recall, are usually on the warm side.

Sorry guys should say 2012. I was working on 3 events for 2013 and typed 2013 by mistake

                  Please Note:

Hello, folks! I edited the thread to reflect the correct date, "2012", so as to avoid confusion.
