  • Bentonville Event - Any word on possible planning?

This is just a VERY early inquiry to see if there was any intention to host any progressive event down in Bentonville?

If anyone knows of anything in the works or organizers, shoot me a note.

I know that we (Hairy Nation Boys) have talked about going in 2015. Tom, let me know if you need any help with anything.

I had mentioned something about this to Will Eichler pre Gettysburg. Haven't had much time to follow up with some people I've talked to, but there does seem to be some interest in getting something going.

I live about 2 hours from the site and when they do hold an event it is pretty well advertised. I imagine they will be gearing up for it soon, but in the meantime I agree that planning an adjunct Company would be worthwhile. True, it is a ways off yet, but my memories of the event and being on the original ground are fond, even if it isn't possible to escape the farbs. Next time I am out that way I will ask around.

An event is planned, but who is organizing it is not mentioned.

I would be extremely interested in this - or any march through the Carolina's EBUFU or adjunct. Fond memories of SGLHA events at Bentonville.

I agree this would be a great "bookend" to the 150th as the 15th Iowa.....

Mr. Steele and I were discussing the same thing...ending as the 15th Iowa would be a great idea. Their march up from Fayetteville is well documented. I'm only about an hour from Bentonville myself and would love see something like this come together.

Mr. Bierce, I came across the same link, which left me vaguely optimistic about the event happening! Still unclear who the event sponsor will be (BGA, Johnson County, etc.)

This looks like this has strong potential to be a great bookend to the 15th Iowa in a gritty Federal way!

It sounds like there is at least some early interest which is awesome! Huck, Holler, it would be great to have you on board once we get an solid idea of where we stand with the event planners.

Definitely interested as well. And, since I'll living be under an hour away from the site starting in September, I'd be happy to help in any way.

How wonderful to see this interest. I had thought about finishing off the 150ths and wanting to do the 15th. Shiloh being their first (and one heck of a showing we had), why not try and get the fellows back together for Bentonville. I have been asking around and received a positive response. Brandon Jolly and others just to name a few. I brought the idea up with Matt Woodburn, who not only liked the idea, but gave me the registration lists from Shiloh. Not only did we have some serious events that hit us (and with Chickamauga) and things were put on the back burner, I was also concerned on how to really bring this up....start from staff and company officers and work down, or form the enlisted and work up.....looks like the old "revival" system is what has been working.
I am willing to get the ball rolling for this. For those interested contact me at

Maybe we could get a march route associated with this. Come into the fight with all tools and items to make breast works as well as ration/ammo issue, etc? Lots of possibilities this far out that would have to be coordinated, but the prospects are looking good already!

Got to get through 1863 first!
