American Camp, San Juan Island, Washington. 23-25 August 2019. 160th anniversary of the Pig War. Public interpretation at this NPS site. George Pickett and Silas Casey were officers in the 4th U.S. Infantry then.

Essentially, the United States and Great Britain nearly went to war over a Hudson's Bay Company pig shot by an American who didn't appreciate the repeated rooting habits of said quasi-ferral porcus.

Portrayals are 4th U.S. Infantry, 1st U.S. Engineers, and U.S. Artillery at actual works dug by the troops stationed there. Portrayal is American response to the international crisis. A civilian "company" is being formed to represent Hudson's Bay Company civilians at the original site of Belle Vue Farm.

August in the San Juans is glorious. Other months, not so much...
